Sample 43

     runnin' half empty, standin'
     with coated yellow teeth
smile ajar yet closed like the hearts of klansmen in '68
across the lily field rows of purple
and other colors too numerous to mention
she stumbles, falls like stereotypical snowflakes
upon the oasis in the center of the field
drenched in mud ravaged in poor hygiene
yet her breasts, excited by the play of the day
smile with purity and purfume
Sample 43 I presume.

The Poetry of Words & The Words of Poetry

     euphemisms, inlets to oceans
made of wool, black wool, insinuations cleaving
to botched ideas, separate but equal
races evolving into a melting pot
of lies once heralded as truths
because history shows us so,
yet euphemisms, inlets to oceans made of wool,
black wool, sinks my sorrow and rocks my ego
to the left, I smile with blood streaming wisely
down my nostrils and to the right a mirror
reflecting the greatest treasure pirates grieve to
acknowledge.

After words there are more words and after those words
there are thoughts and after thoughts there is understanding
and after understanding these words you may acknowledge
the triviality of your reflection in my mirror in my poetry.

Currently seeking an MFA in creative writing at the University of Memphis, Ernest Williamson III’s publication credits include Entropic Desires, A Room Without Walls, Pig n' Poets, Driftnet Poetry, and Einkwell New Media.
